You may not be aware that when someone places an order on our website with a stolen credit card, it's Amazon that has to pay. Every dollar of fraud that we prevent is a dollar of profit for Amazon, or a dollar that can be used to deliver new features or lower prices for our customers. And because of Amazon's huge scale, small improvements can make a large impact.
We have the world's most advanced fraud detection software, but it still has a long way to go. Digital products like Kindle books, downloadable games, and virtual currencies pose new risks, while fraudsters are becoming increasingly sophisticated. Come help us find innovative ways to catch fraud while designing the next generation of our risk management architecture to be faster and more flexible. You'll learn about industry-leading machine learning techniques and cloud computing services, and you will be responsible for multiple distributed systems that need to be highly available and scale to Amazon's massive levels of traffic.

As the development manager, you will have technical ownership of mission critical systems that keeps Amazon safe. You'll lead a talented and nimble team of engineers to create innovative ways for new businesses to use the fraud detection and prevention mechanisms.

Responsibilities include direct management of 5-8 engineers, process and quality of service improvements, strategic planning, project management for software within the team, and management of resources across teams. Successful candidates will be strong leaders who can prioritize well, communicate clearly, and have a consistent track record of delivery.

Basic Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline
- 7+ years of relevant software engineering experience
- 3+ years of technical project management experience
- 3+ years of experience managing people, specifically software engineers.

Preferred Qualifications

- Deep hands-on technical expertise in distributed systems design
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated technical leadership
- Strong business and technical vision
- Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- A deep understanding of software development in a team, and a proven track record of shipping software on time
- Exceptional customer relationship skills including the ability to discover the true requirements underlying feature requests, recommend alternative technical and business approaches, and lead engineering efforts to meet aggressive timelines with optimal solutions
- Experience with large scale webserver infrastructure
- Experience with Java, Linux/Unix, and other higher level languages such as Python/Ruby
- Experience in Agile/Scrum software development practices
- Master's degree in Computer Science or related field.
