Job Description

Invent and build the next generation of digital payment experiences that make it easy and secure for customers to buy digital content and subscriptions from any device anywhere in the world using all relevant payment types ranging from credit cards, debit cards, online and offline direct debit from bank accounts, and various forms of open and closed loop stored values including reward points and electronic gift certificates. As one of the largest and most trusted e-commerce and digital content companies in the world, Amazon processes billions of secure on-line transactions in more than 12 currencies.

The Digital Payment Product Management and Acceptance team is responsible for defining and actively managing the Digital payments customer experience across all of Amazon’s digital businesses’ globally, including Kindle, eBooks, ePeriodicals, Instant Video, Digital Music, Appstore, Audible Audiobooks, Digital games & Software, and Cloud Drive. This includes everything from managing: a) the payment methods we accept, customer experience for paying, cost-of-payments for Amazon’s digital businesses; b) underlying digital commerce and subscription services c) Supporting the business pperations for payments d) overall payments acceptance for Amazon in certain regions around the world and e) proactively shaping the payment industry to elevate Amazon’s role. This team ensures that Amazon can delight its customers through delivering a consistent, low friction purchase and payment experiences across all surfaces (whether “owned” or not by Amazon), while retaining our industry-leading low fraud rates, effectively removing payments related bottlenecks to digital business growth.

The Head of Digital Payment Product Management and Acceptance, Asia will be responsible for defining the overall business strategy, managing product development teams, supporting strategic contracts, managing vendor operations, monitoring and reacting to regulatory changes, and leading the expansion of payments capabilities into new countries to achieve Digital businesses’ strategic and financial goals. You will lead four primary areas: (1) product management and the customer experience for Amazon’s Digital Commerce – meaning you will drive how Amazon’s customers around the world interact during the payment process and experience when buying any digital products in the region; (2) manage the cost of acceptance, adding new payment methods, and negotiating deals to support Amazon’s Digital businesses in the markets that we currently operate and new markets in Asia; (3) support consumer and retail payments teams to manage the payments acceptance function for Amazon’s international expansion plans in the region including setting the strategy for what payment methods to accept and to hire and manage local teams when needed, to launch and operate local payment methods; (4) support global and regional Payment Operations teams to define a model for managing common payment vendors, and identify resource requirements to proactively improve customer experience across all payment methods, and assisting with resolving escalated customer contacts.

You will recruit and manage a global product management team for digital businesses and partner with non-digital payments teams to effectively leverage their existing partnerships and relationships. You will work with key stakeholders internal and external to Amazon including: Engineering, Amazon country managers, retail leaders, finance, legal, accounting, information security and senior payments executives. You will work with your team to evaluate our global acceptance strategy, launch new products, manage operations and negotiate with external partners.
This is a very visible role on the senior leadership team within payments across Amazon. You will be accountable for driving and articulating the strategy as well as contributing to the broader strategy within the global payments groups. You will need strong passion, creativity, operational and analytic skills to operate in our fast-paced, and customer focused environment. While engineering teams do not report directly to you, you are expected to exercise significant influence over the engineering roadmap.

Key Strategic Objectives

  • Create and execute on a strategy to further grow the digital and other businesses at Amazon and drive increased payment revenues.
  • Invent the best local payment experiences for customers that are convenient, simple and secure and in line with Amazon global standards
  • Support the digital and other business leaders inside Amazon to determine business needs and define solutions and vendor negotiations strategy that delivers for all.
  • Prioritize payment requirements and integration roadmap that efficiently meets need of various digital businesses globally.
  • Develop and implement recommendations on tactics and options that drive reduced expense, promote sales and protect Amazon businesses from both risks to its reputation and financial performance.
  • Support the local teams for looking at new opportunities with the goal of adding diverse payment options to the existing portfolio.
  • Partner with internal Amazon teams to manage risk with respect to payment methods while reducing customer friction.
Enhance the overall payment experience for Amazon customers by driving a continuous product improvement cycle so that it is inline with global Amazon standards

Basic Qualifications

  • 12+ years of international experience including 5-8 years in online payment and services industry with significant P&L responsibilities.
  • At least 5 years creating and marketing products online. International Experience negotiating large contracts with banks and payments processors.
  • Must have experience navigating through regulations and legal requirements in countries in the Asia-Pacific region (such as Australia, China, India, South East Asia) to get payment products launched.
  • Must have experience hiring and leading a high performance regional/global team. Experienced manager of managers, with a team of 10 or more.
  • Must have a strong analytical background with a solid understanding of statistical techniques.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work successfully with teams across the organization, including Legal, information security, Finance, Product Management, and Senior Leadership.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to think big and launch “industry leading” ideas. Experience combining products or business assets in non-traditional ways to create new opportunities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and make things happen in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a strong bias for action.

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have international experience and a general management background in both large and small company environments. Other preferred qualifications include:
· On-the-ground experience in countries in the region such as Australia, China, India and South East Asia.
· Experience working on big/complicated deals that spans multiple geographies.
· Experience with payments regulations (regional and global issues , association rules and implications for merchants).
· Experience working very closely with software engineering teams.
· Experience managing an operations team and dealing with customer service.
· Maintains awareness of technological changes, emerging regulations, new product and service offerings and enhancements, requirements in the payment acceptance industries.
· Keeps current with global and regional legislative requirements in the region
